Fall in Love With Simon

What happens when one of your friends invites you to an early movie premiere based on Becky Albertalli’s bestselling novel? One fun night!

TIMES SQUARE, NEW YORK, NY- A few nights ago, I got to see an advanced screening of Love, Simon. My friend Deysha had an extra ticket, so we met at the AMC Empire 25 theater at Times Square. I’m not sure what Deysha was expecting, but this film blew me away. Love, Simon could become the LGBTQIA+ rom-com classic we have all been waiting for. It has more than enough heart and mystery to keep you entertained and maybe even shed a few tears of joy.

Based on the bestselling novel by Becky Albertalli Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, the film follows the almost perfect life of seventeen-year-old Simon Spier. Simon is hiding his sexual orientation from his friends and family. When an anonymous student by the username of Blue, confesses he is gay on the high school blog, Simon develops an online friendship with him. As Simon tries to figure out Blue’s real identity, he realizes he cannot keep his feelings and his secret to himself for long.

The movie has the same tone as The Fault In Our Stars. It has various comedic moments blended with the harsh truths that life throws at you. I am not able to relate to Simon’s situation, but I have various friends who could, and perhaps this film will make an impact in their lives. As the plot line increased momentum, I rooted for Simon and so did the rest of the theater. The energy was very emotional. Love, Simon is more than a coming-of-age story. It is about self-acceptance and the people you surround yourself with. I highly recommend you see this movie, which will be released on March 16th, 2018.
